Anytime Touchdown Scorer Explained โ€” How to Bet ATD in NFL

By Predictify Sportsยท4 min

An anytime touchdown scorer bet (ATD) is a wager that a specific player will score at least one touchdown during the game. It doesn't matter when they score โ€” first quarter or overtime, rushing or receiving. If the player reaches the end zone at any point, you win.

ATD bets are one of the most popular NFL player props because they're simple to understand and fun to watch. You're rooting for one player to score, and every time they touch the ball near the goal line, your heart rate spikes.

How ATD Odds Work

ATD odds are expressed as standard American odds. Favorites to score touchdowns have negative odds, while longshots have positive odds.

PlayerRoleATD OddsImplied Prob.
Derrick HenryStarting RB-13056.5%
Travis KelceStar TE+11047.6%
Patrick MahomesQB+35022.2%
Chris BoswellKicker+100001.0%

Running backs who get goal-line carries typically have the shortest ATD odds. Wide receivers and tight ends depend on red zone targets. Quarterbacks occasionally score rushing TDs but are much less reliable. Kickers and offensive linemen are extreme longshots.

First Touchdown Scorer vs Anytime

These are two different bets:

First touchdown scorer (FTD): the player must score the FIRST touchdown of the game. Higher odds, lower probability. Derrick Henry might be -130 for ATD but +450 for FTD.

Anytime touchdown scorer (ATD): the player scores at ANY point. Lower odds, higher probability.

FTD is essentially a lottery ticket with a big payout. ATD is the safer, more predictable bet. Our AI model focuses on ATD predictions because the larger sample size makes them more modelable.

What Counts as a Touchdown

For ATD purposes, a player scores a touchdown if they:

  • Rush the ball into the end zone
  • Catch a pass in the end zone
  • Recover a fumble in the end zone (rare)

A player does NOT get credited with a touchdown for:

  • Throwing a touchdown pass (the QB doesn't score โ€” the receiver does)
  • A defensive or special teams touchdown (unless the bet specifies "anytime scorer including defense")
  • A two-point conversion (not a touchdown)

How to Pick ATD Winners

The key stats our AI model uses for ATD predictions:

  • Red zone touches per game โ€” how often does the player get the ball inside the 20-yard line?
  • Goal-line carries โ€” for RBs, do they stay in on the 1-yard line or does another back come in?
  • Red zone targets โ€” for WRs/TEs, how often does the QB look for them near the end zone?
  • Touchdown rate โ€” what percentage of a player's red zone touches convert to TDs?
  • Opponent's red zone defense โ€” some defenses give up rushing TDs easily but lock down the passing game in the red zone.

A running back with 3+ red zone touches per game who keeps his role at the goal line is the most reliable ATD bet in football.

ATD in Parlays and Same Game Parlays

ATD picks are extremely popular in same game parlays (SGPs). A common SGP structure:

Team ML + Over total + Player ATD

Example: Chiefs ML + Over 47.5 + Travis Kelce ATD at +320 combined odds.

The correlation matters: if you pick the Over (high-scoring game), ATD picks become MORE likely. If you pick the Under, ATD picks become less likely. Our Same Game Parlay tool accounts for these correlations.
